Gain Measurement of a UHF Yagi Antenna
By Ben Witvliet, PE5B/M0IJQ
This method is very useful for radio amateurs that want to measure the absolute antenna gain of their high gain UHF Yagi antenna. It does NOT need a calibrated reference antenna and the measurement can be done with an SDR receiver or other measurement equipment. Also, the antenna "phase center" (equivalent power center would probably be more accurate) can been found directly from the measured data. No fancy calculations are needed, original calculations were all done in Excel. Measurement accuracy could be improved by creating a range with a laser distance meter, although time to do this was not available during the original development of this technique.
