Grape Personal Weather Station Network Continues its Growth
Dozens of Grape Personal Space Weather Stations are now on the air, and the network is growing on a regular basis. In the last week, stations in Cleveland, OH and Jacksonville, FL were added to the Grape network. They were Node numbers 63 and 64, respectively. You can learn more about the Grape 1, including all of the details needed to build, operate and contribute data to the HamSCI PSWS Grape Server here. The full Grape story, with links to the Grape 1 and the up and coming Grape 2 are here on the HamSCI site.
Pictured here is the Grape 1.12 station of Gary Mikitin, AF8A, located in grid EN91gn, 15 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio. Key components in the photo are the Grape Low IF Doppler Receiver PC Board (lower right), a Raspberry Pi 4B with USB audio interface (upper right), and a Leo Bodnar miniGPS referenced clock (center). Gary's station is set to receive WWV/WWVH on 10 MHz. It is uploading data nightly to the HamSCI Grape PSWS server, hosted by the WWV Amateur Radio Club (WW0WWV). Not shown are the power supplies, GPS antenna and Chameleon RXL preamplified receiving loop located in the attic of Gary's home.
